Presentation and discussion of proposed New Elevated Water Storage Tank in South Broken Arrow
End
Background:
Over the last 20 years increase in population in southern and eastern areas of the City has contributed to an increase in water demand in the southern part of the water system. A previous study identified that the water pressure in the distribution system drops significantly in the southern part of the City due to high demands and lack of storage. To remedy this drop in pressure a project for a new Elevated Water Storage Tank (EST) began in 2016. Part of the project included identifying a site for the proposed tank, some of the parameters that were evaluated to determine the best location for the tank were: maintenance access, proximity to existing distribution system, topographic elevation, and constructability. Based on the evaluation of the proposed sites a location at on the northeast corner of 9th Street and New Orleans was identified as the best location. The City purchased this property in 2017. Once the property was acquired more detailed design of the tank began. Due to inadequate funding available and project prioritization changing, this project was placed on hold in 2020. Funding has now been obtained to finalize design and for construction of this new EST.
