Background:

Development and enhancement of the Arkansas River Corridor was identified as a goal in the 2019 NEXT Comprehensive Plan, as well as the Parks Master Plan.  The City Council, on September 6, 2022, approved a proposal to proceed with the study for Aspen Landing with The University of Oklahoma Urban Design Studio (OU UDS).

A nine-person advisory panel was formed to assist in this study, along with staff from the Community Development Department.  The study was conducted under the direction of Professor Shawn Schaefer starting in the Fall 2022 Semester and concluding in May 2023.

The Planning Commission, on June 22, 2023, received this study and unanimously (4-0 vote) recommended approval.  This study prepared by OU UDS graduate class has received high praise, accolades, and acceptance for its proposed concepts and ideas.
