Ratification of Workers’ Compensation Settlement for Michael Jackson, current Police Department employee

Background:

On September 1, 2020, City Council authorized staff to settle a workers’ compensation claim for Michael Jackson, a current employee of the Police Department. This settlement is presented for Council’s ratification.

On October 1, 2018, Mr. Jackson claimed an injury to the neck and head while participating in a training exercise. The single-event injury was later changed by the claimant to a cumulative trauma injury for the neck, shoulders, arms and hands. The hands and arms were admitted, the neck and shoulders were denied. Claimant underwent multiple surgeries and was released at maximum medical improvement on April 9, 2020.

On September 2, 2020, the claimant accepted a full and final settlement.

The sum of $46,835.00 was paid to the claimant. The sum of $140.00 was paid as a final award fee. The sum of $1,287.96 was paid for applicable taxes.
