Consideration, discussion and possible approval of the Schematic Design of the Senior Center (Project No. 191719)

End

Background:

In 2018, the voters in Broken Arrow approved of the construction of a new Senior Center as part of the 2018 GO Bond Program.  The facility is to be located on Main Street across the street from the existing center.  The building is intended to create more activity rooms and larger spaces to accommodate more members as the program grows.  In addition to the building, the site is being designed with additional parking spaces that exceed the number required for the building.  These parking spaces are intended to help with overflow parking at Arrowhead Softball Park.  There will be a walkway constructed at the back of the parking lot that ties into the park.

In 2019, City Council approved an Agreement for Professional Consultant Services with Chase Fetters Hewitt as the Architect to design this project.  City staff has worked closely with Chase Fetters Hewitt and the user group to come up with a building layout that fulfills their purpose and stays within the budget provided in the bond.  After many iterations, City Staff and the user group has accepted the attached Schematic Design and is recommending its approval so the Architect can begin detailed Design Drawings.
