title

Approval of and authorization to execute Teladoc Health Services Agreement to provide virtual healthcare services for the employee health plan

End

Background:

The City provides a comprehensive health and dental plan for its employees and their families. Since 1989, our plan has been self-insured. Staff is recommending an agreement with Teladoc Health Services (THS) to expand participants’ access to existing plan benefits. THS will provide virtual healthcare services in the areas of general medical, behavioral health, dermatology and back care. Through this service, participants will have access to board certified, licensed providers who can diagnose, treat and prescribe twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week via phone or video.

Employer Advocates, the City’s benefit consultant, reviewed three virtual healthcare providers to determine the most competitive and comprehensive coverage available. THS is an excellent company, offering all basic telemedicine services as well as a variety of add-on services that closely align with the City’s overarching health plan goals. In addition, THS is the most competitively priced of the virtual healthcare providers reviewed.

The proposed annual fee for Teladoc Health Services is estimated to be $67,440. The funds for this item are budgeted in the Group Health and Life Fund.

Staff recommends approval of and authorization to execute the agreement with Teladoc Health Services.
