Background:
The Police Department requested and sought bids for police ballistic vests. Six (6) vendors responded. Current Police Department policy (reg300A) lists three approved manufacturers of body armor, Point Blank, Second Chance II, and Safariland. Of the six vendors only two bid products that were from this approved list, Southern Uniform and Equipment and Baysinger’s Uniform. Southern Uniform was low bidder by approximately $7,000.00.
This contract will provide an existing vendor and source to equip police recruits with their initial issue ballistic vest as well as the replacement vest for officer’s whose vests have passed their expiration date. The contract with be for current fiscal year 2020 and has an option to be renewed for two additional years.
Staff recommends awarding the bid to Southern Uniform and Equipment.
Cost: Not to exceed $35,837.67
Funding Source: Police Public Safety Sales Tax Fund 44
