Ratification of executed change order CO1 with Cherokee Pride Construction for the construction contract 186023; Nienhuis Park Sand Volleyball Courts

Background:
The City of Broken Arrow had four sand volleyball courts designed at Nienhuis Park. Bid documents were prepared and advertised on March 11 and 18, 2019. The Base Bid included the four sand courts complete-in-place and the Additive Alternate No. 1 included four bleacher units complete-in-place along with four concrete pads as a base for the bleachers. Nine bids were received and opened on April 2, 2019. Two bids were non-responsive. The low bidder, for the Base Bid and Additive Alternate No. 1, was Cherokee Pride Construction, Inc. with a total bid of $190,280.00. Subsequently a Notice to Proceed was issued and the contract is currently in construction.
This Change Order #1 addresses the following additions to the contract:
- During the submittal process review of the currently available sand products within the region, an alternate sand that met and exceeded the product specifications and deemed to be a superior fit than that of locally available sands was chosen. The sand chosen has to be shipped in from Cromwell and thus additional trucking costs would apply. This change order cost covers the shipping costs for the required amount of sand required for the project.
- The current specifications for the project call out for hydro-mulch seeding of the disturbed facilities upon completion. Per request of the parks department to facilitate opening the facility, the contractor shall install 6000 square feet of sod around the newly constructed facilities and the remainder of the disturbed areas shall be remediated per plan specs. The below cost is a complete in place cost.
