Title:

title

Approval of and authorization to declare Ryker, a police canine, as surplus obsolete property and retiring said canine to his handler, Corporal Robert Motley, effective July 17, 2019

End

Background:

Canine Ryker, a nine (9) year old German Shepherd, has been in service with the Broken Arrow Police Department since August 2012.  Ryker is having trouble with mobility and is no longer fully capable of performing the official duties of a police working dog.  His handler, Corporal Robert Motley, has requested to keep Ryker.

Council has approved similar requests regarding the retiring of police canines in the past.  The Police Chief generally recommends retiring canines to their handlers.  Due to their training, they are not adoptable therefore this insures the dog will live out its remaining years in comfort.

Staff recommends approval of this item.
