Background:
The City of Broken Arrow and the Broken Arrow Fire Department (BAFD) have developed a program to allow people residing within the Broken Arrow fence line, but outside the city limits to participate in an annual Fire Subscription program. The residents within the city limits pay a higher rate for similar services due to city property taxes. Recently, citizens voted to add numerous fire protection projects to their property taxes. The city ordinances have contained provisions for many years to recoup the expenses associated with providing out of city limits responses. The Manual of Fees calls for a fee of $700 per hour per truck for fire protection services. Since January 1, 2019, these fees have been fully enforced when the Broken Arrow Fire Department has responded to a residence, business, or other property. However, in an effort to provide a more cost-effective solution to those living within the BAFD coverage area (fence line), but outside the city limits we are proposing an optional annual subscription service. This program will be similar to our already established LifeRide program for EMS calls.
