Approval of and authorization to execute a Proclamation declaring the week of May 5-11, 2019, as Drinking Water Week

Background:

Water is our most valuable natural resource.  Only tap water delivers public health protection, fire protection, support for our economy and the quality of life we enjoy. Any measure of a successful society - low mortality rates, economic growth and diversity, productivity, and public safety - are in some way related to access to safe water.

We are all stewards of the water infrastructure upon which future generations depend. Each citizen of Broken Arrow is called upon to help protect our source waters from pollution, to practice water conservation, and to get involved in local water issues by getting to know their water.

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) will celebrate the week of May 5-11, 2019 as Drinking Water Week, which is a unique opportunity for both water professionals and the communities they serve to join together in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives.

Staff recommends that the Council approve the Proclamation and authorize its execution.
