Title:

Consideration, discussion, and possible approval of park name for the new memorial park located at 709 Magnolia Court

End

Background:

In 2017, private donors from Broken Arrow and throughout the Tulsa metro area gave $50,000 to purchase the Bever home located at 709 Magnolia Court. City Councilor Mike Lester led a fundraising campaign to turn the property into a memorial park and garden, after the killing of five Bever family members in July 2015. Groundbreaking for the construction of the park was held on May 30, 2018.

Construction of the park is now complete, and a ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for March 25. Staff recommends that Council select a name for the park prior to the ribbon cutting. The park is located adjacent to the Indian Springs Mini-Park. Some names that are suggested for consideration are, but certainly not limited to, the following:

                     First Responders Park

                     Memorial Park

                     Reflection Park

Remembrance Park

The City Manager will lead a discussion on a possible name for the park.
