MOCK Approval of and authorization to purchase Cisco Wireless Access Points and Licensing from Chickasaw Telecom pursuant to the Oklahoma state contract
End
Background:
The City utilizes two different wireless controllers to provide wireless network access at city facilities. The controllers in use are by two different manufacturers, Cisco and Extreme Networks. The Cisco 802.11g wireless access points installed are longer supported by Cisco beginning November 18, 2017. Last budget year the Cisco wireless controller was upgraded and is capable of supporting the new 802.11ac Wave2 access points. The new access points will provide up to 866 Mbit/s connections as compared to the 54 Mbit/s speed of the currently installed 802.11g AP's. In addition to purchasing access points we will be purchasing an additional 25 AP license for our Cisco controller. This will increase our capacity from 50 access points to 75.

This will also allow us to replace all of the Extreme Networks Wireless equipment at the Public Safety Complex with the new Cisco 802.11ac Wave2 access points. This will combine all facilities wireless networks onto the Cisco platform and provide all city users with an identical wireless experience regardless of the location where you are accessing the network.

The total cost is $36,424.08. Sufficient funds have been budgeted for this project in CIP for fiscal year 2017 - 2018. Staff proposes that the Cisco wireless access points be purchased through Chickasaw Telecom, a provider of the service through a state contract for CISCO products.

Cost: $36,424.08
