Background:

The Police Department has been awarded a grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office in the amount of $28,680.00. Funding will be utilized in the following purpose areas: (1) Overtime for Motorcycle Safety Training (2) Overtime for Motorcycle Awareness Efforts and (3) Operating Costs. The proposed grant funds will specifically allow Officers and designated civilian employees to provide motorcyclist survival courses while in an overtime capacity in support of State and National goals to reduce the number of fatality, incapacitating, and non-incapacitating motorcycle collisions in our community as well as to promote motorcycle awareness efforts.

Staff recommends that the City Council authorize acceptance of the grant award.
