Background:
On April 26, 2018, the Judicial Nominating Committee met to consider the positions of the Presiding Judge and Alternate Judge of the Broken Arrow Municipal Court. The Committee unanimously voted to recommend that Steven E. Edgar be reappointed Presiding Judge and that Dennis A. Sagely be reappointed as Alternate Judge. Pursuant to Section 14-6.1 of the Broken Arrow Code, the Mayor may reappoint the sitting Judges or request that the Committee submit the names of three additional nominees for each position. At the May 15, 2018 City Council meeting, the Mayor re-appointed Steven Edgar as Presiding Judge of the Broken Arrow Municipal Court.
The City's relationship with the Presiding Judge is generally handled contractually. The attached Employment Contract for Professional Services is consistent with agreements utilized in prior years. Each contract term, the Judges pay increases the same percentage as the cost of living raises all city employees receive. This contract term there is an increase in the Presiding Judge’s base salary by 2% for a total of $3,980.31 per month. The contract will expire on May 30, 2020.
