Background:
The intent of the Property Maintenance Code is to ensure public health, safety and welfare insofar as they are affected by the continued occupancy and maintenance of structures and premises.

The provisions of Property Maintenance Code apply to all existing residential and nonresidential structures and all existing premises establishing minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from the elements, a reasonable level of safety from fire and other hazards, and for a reasonable level of sanitary maintenance.

The City of Broken Arrow first adopted a Property Maintenance Code with the approval of Ordinance 2153 adopting the 1998 International Property Maintenance Code. Since that time, each time the new residential and commercial building codes are adopted, the property maintenance code that coincides with the new building codes has been adopted.

The Broken Arrow City Council, approved the adoption of the 2015 commercial building codes in October of 2015 and the adoption of the 2015 residential building codes in October of 2016. The 2015 International Property Maintenance Code does coincide with the residential and commercial building codes currently adopted by the city.
