Background:
The United States Air Force Academy is a world-class university - and one of the most selective colleges in the nation. Competition for appointment to the Academy is extremely high. Applicants are generally competing against as many as 10,000 of the nation's best students for about 1,000 slots. The Air Force uses the Academy to train young officers, and it is easy to see why the process is so involved.

Broken Arrow residents Braden Price and Grace Robinson both served on the Youth City Council during their senior year and graduated from high school in May of 2016. Last spring, instead of direct appointments, Grace received an appointment to the Air Force Academy Prep School which is on-base at the Air Force Academy campus in Colorado Springs, and Braden attended Northwest Prep School in California, a school exclusively designed to prepare students for appointments to the five service academies. Braden received one of approximately 50 national Falcon Foundation Scholarships awarded by the Air Force Academy Association of Graduates (alumni association). This year Grace and Braden went through much of the same application process, and their perseverance paid off as both received Academy appointments for the class of 2021.

In most cases, the Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer (ALO) attends high school graduation or awards ceremonies to present the appointees with their appointment certificates. Falcon Foundation Scholars and Prep School Appointees are both given the same honor by the ALO at these events.
