Background:
The Fire Department budgeted $68,000 in the Fiscal Year 2017 Sales Tax Capital Improvement budget, for the purpose of purchasing new sets of structural firefighting gear. The sealed bids were opened on March 22, 2017. All four vendors submitted their sample sets of gear, within 10 days of the bid opening, for inspection by fire department personnel. Northern Safety’s sample gear met or exceeded bid specifications and were superior to other brands for pant, coat, gloves, boots, including the custom boot cut, custom sizing increments to the ½ inch, 5-year warranty on Velcro, dead air panels within the thermal liner, interchangeable knee pads, double protected pockets and service center for warranty and repair work within the state of Oklahoma. Casco’s sample helmet met or exceeded bid specifications along with recessed face shield matching existing helmets of the Broken Arrow Fire Department. NAEFCO’s sample flashover hood met or exceeded bid specifications. After careful review of each bid received, the fire department recommends Northern Safety’s coat, pant, glove, and boot, Casco’s helmet, and NAFECO’s flashover hood as the most advantageous bids for the City.
