Approval of and authorization to purchase equipment for Storage Area Network and Server Replacement from Dell pursuant to the Western States Contracting Alliance for Computers as competitively bid by the State of Oklahoma's Central Purchasing Division
End
Background:
To continue to effectively back up the City's data, the existing Dell MD1200 and R610 Servers needs to be replaced at the City's Primary Data Center and its disaster recovery site. Staff recommends the purchase of two new Dell R630 Servers and two Dell MD1400 Storage Area Networks, (SAN). One will be installed at the Public Safety Complex and the other will be installed at Streets and Stormwater Facility at (address).
Section 2-27 of the Broken Arrow Code addresses exceptions to competitive bidding. It provides that supplies, materials, equipment or contractual services, when purchased at a price not exceeding a price set therefore by the state purchasing agency or any other state agency authorized to regulate prices for things purchased by the state, regardless of whether such price is determined by a contract negotiated with a vendor or otherwise, may be acquired without competitive bidding. The Central Purchasing Division of the Department of Central Services for the State of Oklahoma has entered into a contract under the Western States Contracting Alliance for computers, printers and LAN storage. Because of this exception in the Code, the City may purchase the necessary servers for this project from the state contract.
The City is standardized on Dell servers. Based upon the state contract and specifically based on the guidelines provided in the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA) Computers, Printers, and LAN Contract, Staff recommends expansion of existing Dell Compellent SAN's for the data storage infrastructure.
Funding is in the fiscal year 2017 ...
