Background:

The City of Broken Arrow Code of Ordinances provides that holidays that fall on Saturday will be celebrated on Friday and holidays that fall on Sunday will be celebrated on Monday.  Due to the 2017 Christmas holiday falling on Sunday and Monday the current language would result in City offices being closed on Monday and Tuesday of the same week. This change in ordinance allows the City Manager to direct the days off of non-bargaining employees.  In regards to the 2017 Christmas holiday, it has been requested that staff be off of work on Friday, 12-22-17 and return to work on Tuesday, 12-26-17. Staff recommends the ordinance be previewed and adopted at the next council meeting.
