Background:
City of Broken Arrow pretreatment staff prepared a quarterly report to the Regional Metropolitan Utility Authority outlining pretreatment activities for significant industrial users and food handling establishments discharging wastewater to the Haikey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. The activities listed are for June through August 2016.
The following is a summary of the report:
All Broken Arrow Significant Industrial Users (SIU) in the Haikey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Basin are in compliance with City of Broken Arrow Pretreatment regulations as listed in the City of Broken Arrow Discharge Permits and Broken Arrow Municipal Code.
Mandatory compliance monitoring reports were received by the due dates, and samples were in compliance with permit requirements. Surcharges for Bio-chemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Oil & Grease above residential thresholds were issued to Unifirst in June for the amount of $4,333.54 and in July for $5,596.78.
City of Broken Arrow staff continues to make good progress on the Fats, Oil and Grease program. Grease-related sanitary sewer overflows are being tracked and areas of concern are being targeted for community awareness efforts. Cooking oil collection bottles and pollution prevention brochures are being distributed to residents and commercial property management. Residents are encouraged to recycle at one of the City's two locations.
Food handling establishment inspections are yielding productive results as managers are becoming more aware of best management practices and maintenance procedures for grease interceptors. Many facilities have increased their gre...
