Approval of and authorization to execute a Professional Consultant Agreement with GH2 Architects, LLC for design of new Fire Station No. 7  (Project No. 173509)

End

Background:

The new Fire Station No. 7 design and property acquisition is a 2014 Public Safety General Obligation (GO) Bond project.  The architectural design will be a site-adaptation of Fire Station No. 2 located on the west side of Aspen Avenue north of the Creek Turnpike, modified to fit the selected site and to incorporate some changes suggested by firefighters. The acquisition of the site at the southeast corner of Washington Street (91st St. S.) and First Place is scheduled to close on September 8, 2016.  Because of the floorplan similarities between Fire Station Nos. 3 and 7, the Engineering and Construction (E&C) and Fire Departments selected the same architecture firm, GH2 Architects LLC, to design both projects.  The same fee of $198,700.00 was negotiated for the Fire Station No. 7 design.  Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached agreement with GH2 Architects for design of new Fire Station No. 7.

Funding for the design will be paid from the 2014 Public Safety General Obligation Bond. Staff recommends approval of the agreement.
