Consideration, discussion, possible approval and authorization to execute Resolution No. 897, a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Broken Arrow, expressing support for the City of Bixby’s proposals and election to capture sales tax from the sunset of the Tulsa County Vision 2025 program
End
Background:
The Tulsa County Vision 2025 sales tax is scheduled to expire January 1, 2017. Since January 2015, the cities in the Tulsa metropolitan area have been meeting to discuss and consider an extension of that sales tax for their respective municipalities.
In March 2015, the Mayors of the metropolitan cities publicly announced their intention to pursue a renewal of the Vision 2025 tax at the municipal rather than at the county level. With this proposed extension, each city would identify the projects and/or services specific to their community, call for their own local election and then place the issues before the voters.
In August of 2015, the Bixby City Council called for a November 10, 2015 election that would place four sales tax proposals before their voters. The identified purposes include developing the downtown river corridor, employing additional public safety personnel, increase funding for city parks and create a capital improvement fund.
The attached Resolution presented expresses the City Council’s support for the projects the City of Bixby is presenting to their voters. Staff recommends that the Council approve Resolution 897 and authorize its execution.
