Approval of and authorization to accept EMC Insurance's offer to settle a claim for vehicle loss, declare the vehicle surplus and releasing it to EMC Insurance
End
Background:
A City owned truck utilized at Battle Creek Golf Club and driven by a Greenway Golf Course employee was involved in a collision at the Battle Creek Maintenance Yard on October 16, 2015. The vehicle, a 1999 Ford F150 pickup, was purchased in February 1, 1999, for $18,413.00. The unit had accumulated 118,622 miles at the time of the accident.

EMC Insurance Company has determined the vehicle is totaled and made an offer to settle the vehicle loss for a total of $3,609.34, which includes any applicable tax, transfer and tag fees. The average retail value of the vehicle based on Blue Book values for this area is $3,495.00

The City's Acting Risk Manager and the Parks Department concur that this is appropriate compensation for this vehicle. The unit will be replaced with a leased vehicle through Greenway Golf Management Company.

Funds from this settlement will go into the Sales Tax Capital Improvement Fund. Staff recommends that the Council authorize acceptance of the settlement offer, declare the vehicle surplus, and release it to EMC Insurance.
