Title:

title

Approval of and authorization to declare two pallets of dated and used bunker gear pants and coats as surplus and authorize the donation of those items to the City of Coweta Fire Department

End

Background:

It is typical for the Fire Department to donate gear and or equipment that has reached its end of service life to volunteer departments, training educational facilities, and smaller paid departments.  Our neighboring mutual aid partner, the City of Coweta Fire Department, is extremely short on bunker gear to outfit volunteers as they attempt to build a volunteer fleet of personnel. The Broken Arrow Fire Department has several sets of used and aged bunker gear that is no longer in service and has exceeded (15) years or more from the manufacturer date.  Currently we have two pallets of coats and pants that the Fire Department can donate, which is approximately twenty sets of gear.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1851 Standard provides that bunker gear should only be used for no more than (10) years from date of manufacture. The gear being donated has all exceeded that time frame and the City of Coweta Fire Department is not requesting the donation for structural firefighting purposes.
