Background:
On April 7, 2026, Broken Arrow voters went to the polls to vote on the General Obligation Bond Package. Under Proposition 4 - Public Facilities, the Military History Museum Expansion was a named project in the amount of $9,200,000.00. Broken Arrow voters approved Proposition 4 by nearly 70%.
Due to the current location of the Military History Museum, the decision was made to move the Museum to a location closer to Veterans Park on South Main. Staff have identified property located at 1201 S Main Street, Broken Arrow, OK as the most suitable location for the new Museum. The commercial land contains 0.58 acres or 25,481 square feet of land area. The owner of the land expressed his willingness to sell the property for a price of $640,000.00.
The City of Broken Arrow hired ACE Appraisal Group to provide the city with an Appraisal Report. On May 21, 2026, staff received the completed Appraisal Report, with the estimated value of $560,000.00. In a June 1, 2026, Executive Session, information concerning the location and price of the property was provided to City Council. In Open Session, the Council directed the City Manager to enter into negotiations with the owner of the property. Subsequently, through negotiations with the owner of the property, Staff offered the amount of $600,000.00 for the purchase of the property.
