Approval of and authorization to purchase mobile communication radios for the police department from L3 Harris Technologies Inc
End
Background:
The Police Department is requesting City Council approval for the purchase of 17 Harris XL185M mobile communications radios with microphone and vehicle mounted antenna. These new radios will be installed in 8 of the 2025 patrol Explorers, 7 of the 2025 patrol Tahoes, 1 2025 Ford F150 Responder (K-9), and 1 Animal Control vehicle. The Explorers and Animal Control truck have been approved by council and ordered, the others have not been ordered as the ordering window has not yet arrived. Harris and Motorola are the two most reputable manufacturers of public safety radios in the nation. Harris Technologies is in contract with the City of Norman as part of a large radio project during this fiscal year. Harris extended that pricing to the City of Broken Arrow. Through this contract pricing the city can purchase Harris radios for much less than the list cost of both Harris and Motorola radios.
Funds have been appropriated and are available in STCI and Police Department’s portion of the Public Safety Sales Tax Fund.
Cost: $112,574.00
Funding Source: Public Safety Sales Tax Projects 2530010, 2530180, 2530140, 2530150
Requested By: Brandon Berryhill, Chief of Police
