Background:
On October 28, 2016, Tri-Star Construction, LLC was awarded the 2016 Excellence in Construction Award by Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC), Oklahoma Chapter, for the Stoney Creek Hospitality Hotel and Conference Center Earth Change Project in the $2 million to $5 million Site Work and Landscaping Category. In conjunction with its award, the City of Broken Arrow, as owner of the project, also received an award for the construction of the project.
In 2014, the City of Broken Arrow entered into an agreement with Stoney Creek Hospitality for the design and construction of a conference center associated with their hotel. By January 2015, the City acquired the 15 plus acre site and Stoney Creek Hospitality began the site layout and design effort. In July 2015, the City through its contractual relationship with Stoney Creek Hospitality funded the first construction phase of the project - the Earth Change effort.
This effort included the excavation of nearly 180,000 cubic yards of earth material, which included over 60,000 cubic yards of rock. The cut excavation along the eastern side of the property approached depths of 30 feet. In an effort to ensure safety, the contractor requested that one lane of traffic along the north side of Albany be blocked off to create a barrier for the trucks entering and exiting the site.
