Review of bids received and award the most advantageous and bid to Marmic Fire & Safety Company for city wide fire extinguisher and fire protection equipment inspection and maintenance services

Background:
The Building Maintenance Division of the General Services Department is charged with ensuring City owned and operated facilities are kept current with required fire protection equipment inspections and maintenance. This includes 308 fire extinguishers in 77 different facilities, kitchen range hoods in 5 facilities, 20 fire sprinkler systems and 21 fire alarms. Additionally, maintenance and repair of these items and systems is required on an as needed basis. This type of work requires a company and employed individuals performing the fire equipment inspections and maintenance to be licensed by the State of Oklahoma for such work.

By contracting this service out on a city-wide basis, the City can reduce overall cost for such services based on volume while simplifying the purchasing process Building Maintenance goes through to acquire such services. This bid also provides for minor repairs (less than $2,500.00) beyond the scope of the inspection services. Repairs in excess of this amount will follow the City's standard purchasing practices. This work is charged to the building maintenance account for each facility and is budgeted for by the responsible departments.

Bids were advertised and sent to eleven vendors. Five returned bids with three offering all the services required. The low bid was submitted by Marmic Fire & Safety. No contract or agreement is required. Their references provided very positive feedback and staff recommends awarding the bid to Marmic Fire & Safety Company for city-wide fire protection equipment inspection and maintenance services.
