Approval of and authorization to declare the Month of July National Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Broken Arrow

Background:
The attached Certificate of Recognition, if approved, will declare the month of July as National Parks and Recreation Month in the City of Broken Arrow. The U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as National Parks and Recreation Month because of the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources throughout the United States.

This year's theme is Superheroes, which was suggested by one of our Recreation Assistants, Hayley Nath. This theme was accepted by the National Recreation and Park Association as the 2016 National Parks and Recreation Month theme.

A list of activities taking place in Broken Arrow during July to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month are as follows:

* Super Selfie Snapshot - Weekly Facebook activity getting people out to the parks to snap a selfie, participants will be entered to win two single day passes to any Broken Arrow pool.
* Friday Night Flicks - Superhero themed movies will be shown at Central Park on July 23rd and 30th.
* Superhero Zumba - Come dressed up as your favorite superhero and be entered to win a free Zumba class and other fun prizes.
* Super Thursdays - Every Thursday in July the Recreation Division will have staff at a designated park that has a splash pad. We will give away draw string bags loaded with superhero themed gifts to the first 50 children.

More information can be found on the Broken Arrow City website or check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BAParksandRec.

Funds have been budgeted in the Parks and Recreation Department for Fiscal Year 2017.

Cost: Estimated at $2,000.00
