Consideration, discussion, and authorization for the Metropolitan Environmental Trust (The M.e.t.) to conduct an Electronic Waste and Tire Collection Event
End
Background:
This year there is no annual Household Pollutant (HHP) Collection Event scheduled due to the opening of Tulsa's New regional HHP Collection Center. As such, the Sanitation Division of the General Services Department, partnerning with The Metropolitan Environmental Trust (The M.e.t.) plans to hold an Electronic Waste (E-Waste) and tire collection event at Central Park on Saturday, June 18, 2016.

The purpose of this event is multi-fold:

1. Provide residents a responsible disposal solution for E-Waste and tires
2. Allows residents to clean and declutter
3. Abandoned tires fill with water and act as mosquito breeding grounds, which can spread diseases such as West Nile and Zika
4. E-Waste contains harmful materials such as mercury, lead and cadmium, which should stay out of the landfill
5. E-Waste and tires collected at the event will be recycled.

The details of the event are as follows:

1. The City will bear no costs to hold this event
2. The Met will provide traffic control, containers and run the event
3. The event will be held at Central Park Community Center, Saturday, June 18, 2016, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
4. Event is for Broken Arrow residents; however, no one will be turned away
5. Only E-Waste and tires will be collected
6. No charges for general household tire and E-Waste
7. There is a 45 pound E-Waste weight limit
8. Citizens will need to pay $10 for monitors and $21 for TV sets (Residents can pre-pay any recycling fees online on the M.e.t. website)
