Background:
Sister City programs are recognized as a best practice by communities throughout the United States. They create opportunities to strengthen international relationships while promoting economic development, tourism, educational partnerships, cultural understanding, and the exchange of municipal best practices. Many cities across America have found these partnerships to be valuable long-term investments that produce meaningful benefits for their communities.
The proposed Resolution would authorize the City to enter into a formal Sisterhood Agreement with the Municipality of Rinc?n de Romos, Aguascalientes, Mexico. The agreement is intended to promote economic development, tourism, education, cultural exchange, and municipal cooperation between our two communities.
In conjunction with this effort, we have received a formal invitation from Mayor Erick Muro S?nchez, President Municipal of Rinc?n de Romos, to attend the Festival Nacional de la Birria 2026, to be held on September 12 and 13, 2026.
The invitation expresses their desire to welcome representatives from Broken Arrow to this annual cultural and culinary festival as they continue strengthening the relationship between our two communities. The festival celebrates the region's heritage, traditions, and renowned birria cuisine. Mayor Erick Muro S?nchez indicated that our presence would be an honor for their community and an important step toward building a lasting partnership.
