Presentation of Oklahoma Floodplain Managers Association, Stormwater Innovation Award to the City of Broken Arrow
End
Background:
On September 22, 2026 the City of Broken Arrow and City Manager Michael Spurgeon were awarded the Stormwater Innovation Award from the Oklahoma Floodplain Managers Association (OFMA) in recognition of Proposition 6 of the City’s 2026 GO Bond program.
Proposition 6 focuses on drainage issues across multiple creek basins and watershed areas, improving stormwater flow, increasing drainage capacity, and reducing flooding risks citywide. On April 7, 2026, Broken Arrow voters approved $5 million in Proposition 6 drainage improvement projects. The City’s Drainage Advisory Committee provides oversight for the program and recommends projects to the City Council for approval with the requirement that drainage issues on private property have a clear, public benefit.
OFMA was established in 1990. It consists of professional engineers, surveyors, hydrologists, educators, realtors, insurance agents, elected officials at the local, county, state and federal level. OFMA advocates the protection of the natural functions of the floodplain through education, training and service to Oklahomans. OFMA encourages and supports flood-safe development and flood mitigation. OFMA promotes sound floodplain management practices. OFMA’s goal is to save lives and reduce property loss from floods.
City administration and staff would like to present these awards to the City Council and Mr. Spurgeon for this well-deserved achievement.
