Background:
In Fiscal Year 2014, the Fire Department requested and sought bids for the purchase of Protective Clothing for Structural Firefighting (“bunker gear”). The resulting bids included the ability to purchase Protective Clothing for two additional years provided the purchase price increase did not exceed 5% in years two and three. This purchase of 21 coats and 21 pants for the new fire cadets will occur in the second renewal period resulting from that Fiscal Year bid and the prices are within the 5% per year increase limitation. It is the intent and purpose of this purchase to provide protective coats and trousers for structural firefighting. Funds have been appropriated and are available in the 2008 General Obligation Bond Issue Fund in the amount of $43,764.00.
Staff recommends that the Council approve the purchase of the bunker gear pursuant to the 2013 bid award.
