Background:

According to the Broken Arrow Code Sec. 22-112 there is levied an excise tax of four percent (4%) upon the gross proceeds or gross receipts derived from all rent for every occupancy of a room or rooms in a hotel in this city. The hotel operator is responsible for tax collection. The hotel operator is also required to file with the city manager a report of occupancy, and of rents, and of the taxes payable thereon for each month. The return is to be filed within the first 15 days after the end of each month.

L.S. Multani, is the owner of Homewood Suites located at 4900 Madison Pl. Broken Arrow, Oklahoma 74012. Mr. Multani has failed to pay such tax from
July 2023 to April 2024, August 2024 and February 2025 to April 2026 and to file reports for the same timeframe. The city has reached out to Mr. Multani on multiple occasions and send a certified letter in April 2026. It is estimated $82,701 is currently owed. At one time the city had arranged a payment plan to get the arrears current. He made a few months of payment then nothing.

The Legal Department recommends that the City pursue in District court in the amount of $82,701.
