Background:

The Police Department has been awarded a grant from the Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) in the amount of $250,000.00. Funding will be utilized in a three year period to hire two (2) new police officer positions.

The U.S. Department of Justice Office of Community Oriented Policing Services provides competitive funding through the COPS Hiring Program (CHP) to support the hiring and rehiring of additional career law enforcement officers to enhance community policing capacity. Broken Arrow Police Department submitted an application for the CHP grant to address staffing needs, improve response capabilities, and continue advancing proactive community policing efforts. The federal award has now been issued. To move forward with acceptance and implementation, City Council ratification is required.
