Background:
On November 4, 2014, the City Council and the Broken Arrow Economic Development Authority entered into an Economic Development Agreement with Stoney Creek Hospitality Corporation for construction of a hotel and conference center across from Bass Pro Outdoor World. The proposed facilities were to be located on land owned by the City and related infrastructure for the project was provided by Vision 2025 surplus funding. The proposed Stoney Creek Hotel was originally contemplated as a 4-story hotel with a lower level embedded into the hill. This would have given an appearance of 5-stories along Albany but 4-stories from the parking area northeast. This type of design required the facility to be concrete and steel construction of the lower level and the upper 4-floors to be wood construction.
Preliminary costs associated with the proposed Stoney Creek Hotel facility have resulted in Stoney Creek Hospitality undergoing a "value" architectural review. This is a review of the major construction items and looking for comparable materials or changes in design that reduce the cost of the overall facility. This is fairly common in the construction industry today.
