End
Background:
World Autism Awareness Month and Day aims to put a spotlight on the hurdles that people with autism face each day. As a growing global health issue owing to its increasing exposure in the press and common knowledge, autism is an issue that is only gaining more understanding, and activities are planned every year to further increase and develop world knowledge of children and adults who have autism spectrum disorder. Autism affects an estimated 1 in 54 children and 1 in 45 adults and can cause challenges with verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction. It is often accompanied by medical conditions that impact quality of life.
The City of Broken Arrow is honored to take part in the observance of World Autism Month and World Autism Day to address the diverse needs of individuals and families affected by autism.
