Presentation of Letter of Recognition for Paul Gerner and Kurt Klein for their years of service with the Camp Bandage event
End
Background:
Camp Bandage was founded by Dr. A.L. Gerner and his wife Shirley in 1983 at their farm in south Broken Arrow. Because of their farm and large family, they started teaching their children basic first aid and safety. In 1983, they decided to open it up to the public. Being in the medical field, they easily attracted many groups that wanted to help.
The Broken Arrow Fire Department and Police Department joined Camp Bandage and operated it for 20 years.
The Dr. and his wife passed, and Camp Bandage had a hiatus for a few years. In 2008, Kurt Klein approached Dr. and Mrs. Gerner’s son, Paul Gerner, about restarting the event. Kurt became the Director in 2009, and with the help of Paul, they began a new era of helping children and families. The event grew so much that it was moved to the events park in 2012. In 2020, another event was started in the Grand Lake area.
Councilor Lisa Ford would like to recognize Paul Gerner and Kurt Klein for their years of service teaching public safety and first aid for this long-standing Broken Arrow event.
