Background:
Citizens north west of the intersection of Houston St and Midway Road contacted the City in November 2025 asking for help regarding pooling water in the backyards of himself and his neighbors. The citizens live in the Cottages at Forest Ridge platted in 2001. The concern was stated that water is standing in their backyards and starting to encroach to the houses. This area has several utilities in the area including City of Broken arrow water and Rural Water #4. Rural Water #4 and the City have both checked for leaks in the water line since this was reported during a dryer rainfall period. After extensive testing, both entities determined that the water lines are not leaking. During this same time, a new subdivision is under construction on the south east quadrant of the intersection. A new sanitary sewer line was installed diagonally to connect to the manhole behind the Cottages at Forest Ridge. Further investigation by City staff and the developer's engineers and contractor have determined the standing water is ground water. The ground water on the south east side the intersection started to use the new sanitary sewer as a conduit to travel to the manhole. The developer has placed a plug in the trench. This has mitigated some of the ground water.
Historical maps show a blue line flowing from the south east to the north west through the houses. This was rerouted to the Houston roadside ditch when the Cottages at Forrest Ridge was constructed.
