Notification of road closure of Houston Street between 79th Street (Midway/257th East Avenue) and South Winwood Lane
End
Background:
City of Broken Arrow Street & Stormwater crews will begin work on a budgeted roadway maintenance project along Houston Street (81st Street). During project planning and preliminary assessments, it was determined that the existing roadway between 79th Street (also known as Midway/257th E Ave) and Winwood Lane is too narrow to safely reconstruct while maintaining traffic flow. To ensure safe construction practices and to significantly shorten the duration of the project, this section of roadway will be fully closed.
The closure will last approximately four weeks, during which crews will completely rebuild the roadway from the base up. This approach will provide the safest working conditions for staff and result in the fastest completion timeline for this segment of the project.
In addition to the full closure area, City crews will also perform less extensive repairs east of South Winwood Lane to 273rd E Ave (Oak Grove Road). These improvements will include localized base repairs followed by a mill and asphalt overlay. For this phase, traffic will remain open but will experience periodic lane closures to allow crews to safely complete the work.
This construction sequencing is the safest and most efficient method to complete both the full reconstruction and the east‑side repair work while minimizing overall project duration and impacts to the traveling public.
