Presentation and discussion on the status of the City of Broken Arrow and Broken Arrow Municipal Authority's Water and Wastewater Utility Infrastructure
End
Background:
The City of Broken Arrow has experienced a significant amount of growth over the past 50-plus years that has catapulted our community to the fourth largest city in the State of Oklahoma based upon population. This growth, more specifically the people that make up this growth, has made Broken Arrow a community second to none. Award after award demonstrate the livability and spirit of our community.

Likewise, coupled with this exponential growth has been a tremendous expansion in the public infrastructure, more specifically the community's water and wastewater systems. A significant amount of utility infrastructure growth and expansion occurred in the late 1960's through the mid-1980's. Much of this early expansion is now aging and beginning to show signs of deterioration, as well as portions approaching the end of its useful service life.

This is not a challenge solely facing our community. In fact, much of the infrastructure throughout the nation is severely aging and showing significant signs of deterioration. However, the City and the Authority are preparing and focusing on ways to become more proactive in order not to reach critical mass with respect to an aging utility infrastructure. The goal of the City Manager and Staff is to move the City ahead of the declining infrastructure curve.

The presentation is intended to serve as a status update to the Authority and provide information concerning the proactive steps currently being implemented.
