End
Background:
The proposed project is to design improvements for the NEEDA Regional detention pond and the extension of Madison Street.
The NEEDA land was purchased by the City in 2005 for a regional detention pond. This pond serves a drainage basin of approximately 186 acres upstream The 100-Year (1% Storm) flow for the NEEDA pond drainage area is approximately 900 cubic feet per second
The pond is not functioning as originally designed. Overgrown vegetation and debris have collected on the south side of the pond near the outlet structure and is holding water. The pond was originally designed as a dry detention facility.
Council approved funds for a study of NEEDA Pond on September 17th, 2024. The study showed how the pond is currently functioning and different solutions for remediation of the pond.
The design improvements include restoring pond functionality, water quality elements, and the extension of nearby Madison Street. For the detention pond improvements, the design includes two options, a wet pond design and a dry pond design.
