Background:
This item comes before the Council to advise of upcoming out-of-state travel by City Council members for January 2025:
On January 17-19, 2025, Mayor Debra Wimpee will travel to Washington DC for the United States Conference of Mayors for the 93rd Winter Meeting. The United States Conference of Mayors is the official non-partisan organization of cities with a population of 30,000 or larger. Each city is represented by its chief elected official, the mayor. As the leading voice for cities in our nation’s capital, the Conference brings together mayors from across the country to engage with the White House, Administration, and Congress to ensure that federal policy addresses the priorities of cities. Mayors have an opportunity to participate in this important work by attending the Winter and Annual Meetings, joining the Capitol Hill visits, and serving on Standing Committees where the Conference’s policy priorities are shaped.
Due to the inauguration of President-Elect Donald J. Trump, at the same time as this event the hotel rates have increase substantially. Mayor Wimpee has elected to not stay at the conference hotel due to the increased rates and will be staying at a hotel nearby with a much lower cost per night.
