Background:
Unit 2427, a 2024 BMW R 1250 police motorcycle, was purchased in May 2024 for $28,208.06 and assigned to the Broken Arrow Police Department.
On April 27, 2026, the motorcycle caught fire while an officer was conducting a traffic stop. The fire was attributed to a manufacturing defect and caused damage exceeding 50 percent of the motorcycle’s total valuation. The manufacturer subsequently declared the motorcycle a total loss.
BMW North America has offered $28,208.06 to settle claim number WB10L0303R6J51084 for the loss of the motorcycle.
Staff recommends accepting the settlement offer, declaring Unit 2427 surplus, and authorizing its release to BMW North America as part of the settlement.
