Background:
The Broken Arrow Municipal Authority owns, operates and maintains about 750 miles of wastewater collection lines ranging in size from 6" collector lines to 54" trunk main lines. All wastewater collected is conveyed by two trunk lines to the two treatment plants for treatment and safe disposal.

The 36" County Line Road trunk line transports most of the wastewater collected in the north and eastern part of the city to the Lynn Lane Wastewater Treatment Plant (LLWWTP) for treatment and disposal. The line was installed along County Line Road from Houston Street to south of the Creek Turnpike. After the creek crossing south of the Turnpike, the trunk line turns west towards Jasper Street and terminates at the LLWWTP.

The segment of the line from Houston Street heading south to the LLWWTP was constructed around 1985 using concrete cylinder pipe. Over the years segments of the line had deteriorated due to microbial corrosion primarily around the crown of the pipe that had led to several pipe failures. Some of the failures repaired was the result of segments of pipe caving in after major rainfall events.

During each pipe failure occurrence, the soil over and around the pipe gets washed into the pipe and plugs the trunk line with mud and debris. When the trunk line gets plugged, the sewage flowing in the line gets relieved through manholes at the Broken Arrow Creek Crossing.

When the sewage overflows at any location along this stretch of line, crews respond and unplug the line using high pressure water jet cleaners. The sanitary sew...
