Background:
At the 11/12/24 Visit Broken Arrow meeting, the board requested that VBA staff investigate the logistics included in implementing a local film incentive.
At the 1/14/25 Visit Broken Arrow meeting, staff presented ideas and a first draft of the incentive and requested feedback on incentive details.
At the 2/11/25 Visit Broken Arrow meeting, VBA voted to approve the proposed film incentive.
VBA staff worked with the Oklahoma Office of Film & Music and other Oklahoma communities that offer film incentives and gained insight from the local hoteliers group. The proposed BA Film Incentive is the product of this collective research and feedback.
Highlights of the incentive include:
10% rebate on local spending during film project
$500 rebate for every 12 room nights spent at a Broken Arrow Hotel
10-20% rebate on cost of production space used during film project
The film industry in Oklahoma is booming right now. Staff is confident that the proposed incentive will be a catalyst to spur economic growth in Broken Arrow.
Staff will review success of the program one year after implementation to determine whether long-term budgeting for the incentive is recommended.
