Broken Arrow City Council

Meeting of: June 1, 2026

Title:

title

Consideration, discussion, and possible approval of the installation of a 25-year time-capsule to be located in Veterans Park

End

Background:

Communities across the country are celebrating the 250th Birthday of America, and the City of Broken Arrow is joining in through special events, community activities, and patriotic celebrations leading up to July 4, 2026. Residents are invited to participate in a variety of events that honor America’s history, celebrate our community today, and leave something meaningful for future generations.

As part of this celebration, City officials and staff will gather on June 30, 2026, at Veterans Park, located at 1111 S. Main Street, to dedicate and bury a 25-year time capsule that will be opened in 2051 during the Nation’s 275th Birthday celebration. The capsule will preserve memories, milestones, historical documents, and reflections from today’s generation for future residents and visitors to discover.

In 2021, the governing body approved policy language intended to limit or restrict future exhibits and installations within Veterans Park without prior approval from the City Council. This request for action serves as the formal request for approval to install the proposed time capsule and commemorative marker within the park.

The proposed location of the time capsule vault is identified on the attached map exhibit.
