Background:
The U.S. Constitution requires that each decade a complete count be taken of all persons. The Census is conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Commerce.
To achieve a successful and complete count, the U.S. Census Bureau relies on partners, including municipalities to achieve this important goal. One effective way to accomplish this goal is through formation of a Complete Count Committee. In the Tulsa Metropolitan Area, a regional complete count committee has been formed, comprising of all area communities and counties. Farhad Daroga, Special Projects Manager, is the designee on this committee for Broken Arrow.
Each year the federal government distributes tax dollars to states and municipal governments based on U.S. Census Bureau data. Each 10 years the U.S. congress determines how many representatives each state has in Congress based on U.S. Census data. Similarly, Oklahoma determines representative boundaries, also based on U.S. Census data.
It is an important goal of the City of Broken Arrow to achieve a full and complete count in the decennial Census to be conducted in April 2020.
