Presentation updating the Council on the status of the Uber Rideshare Program
End
Background:
In June of 2022, Tourism and Economic Development staff recommended to City Council a pilot program with Uber to provide rideshares in the Broken Arrow Hotel District. City Council approved this initiative at their June 20, 2022, meeting. Visit Broken Arrow approved the program at the August 9, 2022, meeting. The program officially kicked off beginning in the fall of 2022. The goal of the program is to entice those visiting the Tulsa region to utilize Broken Arrow lodging, as well as connect visitors with shopping and dining experiences in Broken Arrow. The service is only available to guests staying overnight at Broken Arrow hotels. The program provides rideshares at no cost to hotel visitors. Visitors may currently only utilize the rideshares to visit either The Rose District or New Orleans Square during the pilot program.
There has been a positive response to this pilot program over the past 24 months. At this time, the Visit Broken Arrow board and staff are planning to continue the program as a regular offering of Visit Broken Arrow, with regular analyzation of the program’s effectiveness during budget considerations each year. Additionally, the Visit Broken Arrow board has recommended that the Tulsa Airport be added to the list of rideshare locations eligible for the program, and that eligible hours be increased to 8am-2am in order to reach those businesses that open early and stay open late.
