Background:

Mr. Warren Unsicker, Vice President of Economic Development with the Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation, will provide an update on activities, business development and speaking engagements involving the Rose District.  Highlights include the following:

Business Development Update:

In the past few months Maui White, Urban Charm and Wells Fargo Advisors have all opened new locations in the Rose District.  There are four new businesses set to open in the next month or two including, Roll-O’s Bakery, Cheri Ann’s Trattoria, a winery and a furniture store.  The Rose District is nearly at full capacity along Main Street.

Update on 305 N. Main

The Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation sent out a formal Request for Proposal to a group of highly qualified developers in the Tulsa Metro region for a mixed use project to be placed at 305 North Main, where the former Assembly of God church is currently located.  The mixed use should include retail, residential, and possible office space.  This is set to become the north anchor of the district and a signature project in the metro area.  The Notice to Proceed will begin on June 13th.   Staging and demolition will occur shortly thereafter.  Removal of the building will provide a “shovel ready” site to prospective developers.

Speaking Engagements/Publications

Mr. Unsicker recently led a group of Chickasha city leadership on a walking tour of the Rose District and shared the path to success that was taken to transform the District.  He will contribute to a webinar for many accrediting agency groups from around the world with regard to main street and retail development.  A case study on the Rose District is being published in a joint “best practices” publication compiled by the ICSC and IEDC.

Phase IV Development

Mr. Unsicker has been working closely with City Staff on the Streetscape IV planning.  As part of that, he will work to ensure the project poses as little impact surrounding businesses as possible.
